Simpson Desert Safari Tour (14 days)
6 - 19 May 2024
We have two magnificent Simpson Tours, one early in the season in May, and one especially tailored for the school holidays. The tour commences at Broken Hill. Travel through the North Flinders Ranges; traverse the Oodnadatta track visiting many of the old railway sidings and other relics of the Old Ghan as we trek out to Dalhousie Ruins and the wonderful Dalhousie Springs on the western edge of the mighty Simpson Desert. After a refreshing swim we head into the Desert. We follow the Rig Road to the WAA Line and then cross the very heart of the Desert to the Knolls track. This leads us to the French Line, Poeppel Corner and finally the QAA line to our greatest challenge, the Big Red sand dune. After meeting this challenge we head into Birdsville where we stay in the Birdsville Hotel and enjoy Dinner in the iconic Birdsville Pub. Over the next few days we visit Cadelga Ruins, Cordillo Downs, The Dig Tree and Innamincka where we will spend two nights camped on Cooper Creek. We then travel down the Strezlecki track to Cameron Corner before travelling down through the Sturt NP to NSW’s hottest town Tibooburra! From here we drive down the Silver City Highway via some old historic sites before turning off to White Cliffs where you can choose to stay in the famous “Dug Out” underground motel if you wish!
