Gold Rush Tour (1 Day)

NATURETOURISMCERTnew
The Central West of NSW was the scene of the country’s first gold rush back in 1851 and this trip will visit two of the major areas that featured in the growth of our country in those early days. The tour will start with us meeting at Bathurst. Then we hit the beautiful countryside as we take a lesser travelled road north of Bathurst to engage low range 4wd and drop down into the Macquarie River. After scrabbling across this wide river bed, we join the Bridle track where the gold was once carted from Hill End to Bathurst by horse and cart. Lunch will be in the historic town of Hill End atop another fabulous lookout.

Leaving delightful Hill End we continue north through high country sheep grazing land until we once again drop down to cross the Macquarie River on another open, rocky causeway. Now we turn south and make our way to the very first location where gold was discovered at the little locality of Ophir. The tour eventually returns to Bathurst at the end of a great day of exploring this magnificent countryside.

A trip that requires a little low range work and outstanding scenery combined with the history that built our Central West.
